It's always exciting when the first real snow hits your home ski areas, and when you shovel your first snow of the season. We spent the weekend in Tabernash, which is in the Frasier Valley near Winter Park. We woke up to about 4" of snow, and it was still snowing hard at sunrise. It was so cool seeing all the great pictures and videos coming out of New England recently where some hardy souls took advantage and got some turns in; expecially up in northern Vermont at Stowe, Smuggs and Jay Peak. I hope the early New England snow is a sign of things to come for the winter ahead.
Wolf Creek, located in southern Colorado, received about 2' over the weekend and will be open for the season today, October 22. In addition, they are celebrating their 85th anniversary this season which is incredible for an independently operated ski area. If you've never been to Wolf Creek, it's worth going out of your way for. It typically gets the most snow of any ski area in Colorado, and has some awesome terrain. I recall Wolf Creek having a suprise early opening on October 8 back in 2011 (see pic) when they received 44" of snow, and the entire mountain opened. I managed to make it down there that day and it was incredible. Face shots in early October doesn't seem possible, but it happened, and it was unreal. It was one of those ski days that gets burned in your brain forever. Wolf Creek is a Meier crew favorite and when we see a storm cycle heading their way, we plan accordingly.
Needless to say, we're incredibly excited for another ski season of making lasting memories, and we're grateful for those of you who have supported Meier through the years and choose us as your ski of choice for your favorite past time; skiing!
