TELEMARK SKIS DESIGNED BY TELEMARK SKIERS

Thoughtfully designed by telemark skiers, our telemark skis are handmade in Denver, Colorado by skiers, for skiers. Meier is proud to produce this noteworthy ski shape for our tele turning and free heel skiing crowd. We offer worldwide shipping or pickup in-store in Denver on South Broadway.

SKI DETAILS

The Norheim, whose name pays homeage to the founder of telemark and modern skiing, has all mountain flex pattern to optimize tele turns of all types. From high speeds to quick turns in the bumps, our all-wood core has no chatter at speed and a lively bounce to spring from turn to turn.

At Meier, we're thoughtful about the different kind of skiers we serve and we are confident we’ve built something exceptional for the telemark skiers that have become fans of Meier Skis over the years.

Base and sidewall color on ski may vary.

Asymmetrical Sidecut

A shape developed specifically for the unique telemark turn. The asymmetrical sidecut allows the inside ski edges to turn more easily than the outside ski edge. This creates a tighter turning radius on the inside edges for an easier tele turn, regardless of your turn shape and style.

Telemark Ski Profile

The Norheim telemark ski features early tip rise for effortless turn initiation with the float you want underfoot for deeper days. With a camber profile, the Norheim tele ski has energy with a flat tail for greater snow contact at the end of the turn.

Innovative Tip Shape

Never worry about your tips hitting during turns! This special tip shape has been designed to effortlessly slide the ski tips by each other no matter what type of tele turns you make.

Binding Retention

The Norheim telemark ski features a hard maple wood core where bindings are mounted to reduce any chance of binding pull out. Hard maple has a tight wood grain which grabs and holds on to screws used for mounting bindings. We're so confident in our premium (made by us!) wood core that this ski carries our industry-leading 3-year warranty*. *warranty valid for modern 6 hole telemark bindings that are still in production.

Touring Optimization

Free-heel for the backcountry win. Our tip and tail shapes have been designed to securely hold skin clips for those adventurous tele skiers that enjoy touring. The asymmetrical flair also streamlines during touring for increased endurance in a more natural uphill stance.

Warranty

All of our skis are handmade in Denver, CO at the Meier Craft Skiery and are backed by a 3-year warranty for modern 6 hole telemark bindings that are currently in production. Old telemark bindings with fewer holes negate the warranty.
Meier recommends 22 designs telemark bindings (we can mount them as well at our store in Denver).

Sondre Norheim

Widely credited as the father of telemark skiing, what Sondre Norheim started in 1868 continues to have a passionate following over 150 years later. Born in Telemark, Norway, Sondre was known to jump off of roofs with his skis when vertical was lacking. He's responsible for bringing the Norwegian words of ski and slalom to the global vocabulary and has been honored during several Olympic games.

If your friends are telling you that telemark is dead they haven’t tried Meier Skis new Norheim.

Arguably more fun than a Lamborghini on an autobahn, but I need to qualify this. If you like the idea of being chauffeur driven, then you are probably not going to enjoy the telemark turn. If, on the other hand, you get a kick out of watching the tachometer redline and smile as you double de-clutch and feel the car surge forward, I think there is a chance you will feel the same on a pair of Norheims. The telemark turn requires a significant investment; however, the payoff off is enormous, and this is the ski to revel in its joy.  Asymmetric lines make it agile and run true in the skin track. They also ease weighting the rear ski on the descent (the mark of a good telemark skier) and provide plenty of length to allow the downhill ski to do a lot of the work in a turn. Throw in that they are easy to pull back together if you spread them apart, and you have a ski that wants you to be elegant. Quick edge to edge and stable underfoot, this ski is a winner. Thank you, Meier for launching a telemark ski when so many see the turn being passé. I have not smiled so much in a while.

Doing Sondre proud

I was impressed initially with the heft and the build quality of the boards. I mounted the Meidjo 3.0 binding myself. I only got to ski one day on them at Timberline in late May, and the conditions were typical spring - hard and icy corduroy early, then lovely corn, then glue at noon. Right off the bat, they wanted to telemark. After decades of skiing on alpine skis mounted telemark, I appreciated their willingness to initiate, follow through, and stay separated and stable through the turn. I was concerned a bit about the 20M sidecut (175cm). But it was not a problem, and I found them quick enough edge to edge to make the trees possible. They do want to set a fairly broad arc and lower and medium speeds, but when you push them, they will close up the radius in a predictable way. They are very stable at speed, so it's easy to get into a high G condition and really bend them and make them carve. At lower speeds, their stiffness is apparent, but they will slarve if asked to. They fit my style of telemark - fast, carvy, and quick transitions. Happy to have them in my stable for those non-powder and good corn days.

If you love to telemark…

Then look no further. This is the ski. Equally at home on inbound groomers and outside the lines powder. Worked wonders from east coast hard pack to Swiss Alps powder. It’s simply a great set of skis. The Meier team is also nothing but top shelf. Responsive, user friendly, and of highest quality in workmanship.

Great skis, gotta be patient with production

Love the skis, they carve the firm, they float and rise in pow, the edge change is quick and and they are light enough I can swing the 180’s around in tight bumps. These are my go to resort tele ski for patrolling in Idaho, and I tour/guide with them on medium deep days. They are a one ski quiver for tele for sure. Only subtracted a star because they took 6 and a half weeks to get to me, and I ordered in early November. Also, not my favorite graphics, but that’s beside the point, they ski really great!
